Noticing Beauty, Honoring Life

Such beauty exists—
Just waiting to be noticed.
Slow down and feel awe.

This morning, during a quiet walk through Moshava Park here in Zichron Yaakov, we spotted this stunning bloom. She seemed to be standing tall just for us, a gentle reminder to pause and take in the miracles that surround us daily. (If you recognize what she’s called, let me know—I’d love to learn her name.)

As we admired her, we noticed the park was being transformed for tonight’s Yom HaAtzmaut celebration. Flags being strung up, lights being tested, speakers and chairs being arranged—all signs of the shift that is so unique to this land.

Here in Israel, we move from Yom HaZikaron, Memorial Day, straight into Yom HaAtzmaut, Independence Day. It’s a transition that carries weight and depth. We honor those who gave their lives so we can live in this land—and just hours later, we celebrate the blessing it is to be here. To sing, to dance, to breathe in the scent of jasmine and soil, and to see flowers like this one bloom right in front of us.

It’s not always easy to hold both grief and joy, but that’s the sacred rhythm we live here. And perhaps that’s what helps us feel both so deeply.

Wishing everyone a meaningful and peaceful Yom HaAtzmaut.
