Jewish Spirit Channeling for Kids

Reclaiming the Ancient Art of Channeling Divine Connection

I first heard about God at my Reform temple and read about God in the prayer book there. As a child, I brought God home with me and continued to speak with Him/Her from the quiet of my bedroom.

Our bodies are vessels for spirit, bridges connecting heaven and earth.

The process of channeling—or what we might call “intuitive connection” or “spiritual alignment”—is a skill that allows us to embrace this truth. It is not just a mystical or esoteric practice; it is a fundamental human ability and a key to living a life of meaning and connection.

What Is Channeling?

At its core, channeling is connecting with the Divine Source—the infinite wellspring of wisdom, love, and guidance that permeates all of creation. It’s about tuning into the flow of divine energy and allowing it to guide us, inspire us, and heal us.

While the term “channeling” may sound new-age, it’s simply the modern language for something humanity had always done. Our ancestors lived in a state of deep spiritual connection, constantly attuned to God, angels, and their own intuition.

Over time, however, this practice faded. Distractions, doubts, and societal norms distanced us from this innate ability. It’s time to reclaim this gift—to rediscover the joy and power of living in alignment with the Divine.

A Jewish Perspective on Channeling

Judaism encourages us to cultivate a deep, personal connection with God. Our tradition is filled with examples of individuals who “channeled” Divine wisdom. Prophets like Moshe (Moses), Yirmiyahu (Jeremiah), and Yeshayahu (Isaiah) received direct communication from Hashem (God).

While prophecy in its highest form may no longer seem to exist, the Torah teaches that the “bat kol” (a heavenly voice) continues to guide each of us (Berachot 10a).

Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel wrote extensively about the idea of living with “radical amazement” and being attuned to God’s presence in our lives. This state of awareness is a form of channeling—opening ourselves to perceive the divine in our daily experiences.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, emphasized that every Jew has a unique spark of divine energy within them, granting the ability to connect with Hashem directly. In Tanya, the Alter Rebbe teaches that the soul is a “part of God above” (Tanya, Chapter 2). Each of us has the potential to access divine wisdom and live in alignment with it.

Everyone Can Do It

Channeling is not reserved for a select few. It’s a skill that anyone can learn and develop. Just as we teach children how to read and write, we should also teach them how to connect with their inner divine spark. Imagine a world where every child grows up knowing how to:

  • Trust their intuition
  • Feel guided by a higher power
  • Know their life’s purpose and mission
  • Create with divine inspiration
  • Heal themselves and others with love and intention

What Can We Call It?

For those uncomfortable with the term “channeling,” there are other ways to describe this practice. You might call it:

  • Divine Alignment
  • Spiritual Connection
  • Tuning In
  • Receiving Guidance
  • Sacred Listening

Or simply living as our True Selves. The name doesn’t matter as much as the practice itself. What’s important is that we make space in our lives to cultivate this connection.

Practical Ways to Start

  1. Meditation and Prayer: Begin each day with quiet time to focus your mind and open your heart to divine guidance. Close your eyes and imagine soft light surrounding you. Ask for guidance. Listen.
  2. Journaling: Write down thoughts, feelings, or messages that come to you in moments of stillness.
  3. Mindful Creativity: Allow art, music, or writing to flow through you without judgment or overthinking.
  4. Nature Walks: Spend time outdoors and feel the presence of the Divine in creation.
  5. Learning Torah: Engage with sacred texts (with a learning partner) and see how they resonate with your own experiences and insights.

The Time Is Now

We are living in an era where humanity is being called to awaken. The challenges of our time demand that we reconnect with our divine source, trust our inner wisdom, and step into the fullness of who we are meant to be. This is not just a spiritual practice—it is our birthright and our responsibility.

The power is within us. Let’s get it back.
