Throughout my healing journey, especially since I made Aliyah and the war started here, I try to find time each day and night for self-care that includes a bit of journaling, some painting, prayer and meditation.
Creativity is a powerful and innate tool accessible to all of us, even if (like me) you weren’t taught to embrace your creative side.
It’s about more than talent.
Our willingness to create through words and colors mirrors the divine act of creation, which increases happiness and (re)connects us to our authentic selves.
In Judaism, words are sacred, and storytelling is a way to pass down higher wisdom through generations. It’s also a way to pray, connecting with G-d, ourselves and other people.
Sometimes I like to use the holy words of Tanach, especially Tehillim, as my guides.
While sometimes it’s hard to connect with words, I find that abstract art bridges that gap.
Creative expression becomes a spiritual journey.
I discover things from within my soul that my analytical mind may have blocked.
Here are some ways to transform your daily routine and invite more creativity into your life:
Gratitude Journaling
Start or end your day by writing down a few things for which you’re grateful. Cultivating gratitude opens our minds to creative possibilities and invites more positivity into our lives.
Watercolor Serenity
No need for fancy supplies—just grab a brush and a watercolor palette, some thick paper, and play with colors. It’s a soothing and mess-free way to access your artistic spirit.
Soothing Doodling
This is a meditative practice that can be done almost anywhere, anytime. Doodling helps calm the mind, accesses the body’s healing wisdom, and allows your spirit to rest and recover. I’ll write more about this simple but powerfully fascinating practice in another post.
Share your favorite creative healing tip here, or what keeps you from trying (i.e. the critical voice in your head), and let’s empower each other on this journey!
