No Place Like “Home”

There’s a teacher strike in parts of Israel, so my son came to work with me today.

My other kids are in private schools, which stayed open.

But his school, even though it’s Montessori-style and pretty unique, is considered public.

One of the amazing things about schools in Israel, in addition to costing nothing, or very little, is that they all still teach Torah.

Some of the most decidedly secular people I know have fierce pride in their Jewishness and a love of Israel.

I chose to be religiously observant. But even those who may not consider themselves religious keep kosher and acknowledge Shabbat.

Being Jewish here in our Holy Land is such a different experience than in the U.S.

I lived in communities of all sizes, including Atlanta, Richmond and Miami.

But there’s no place like “home.”

Making Aliyah and bringing my kids to our Jewish homeland is a dream come true.

Once we realized we really wanted it, G-d helped make it happen. Of course, it requires a lot of human effort, too.

After 2,000 years of exile, we are able to come back to our homeland.

Jews of Spain, Ukraine, Warsaw, the U.S.… we never stopped praying to return.

G-d kept His promise. And now it’s time. So here we are.
