I visited the caves of Bet She’arim forest today, in the lower Galilee.
Many sages and spiritual leaders were buried in this enchanting but eerie archeological site. And there are still many caves and burial places yet to be discovered amidst the tall pines.
It was hard to comprehend that the intricate spaces were meticulously carved thousands of years ago, before we were expelled from our homeland.
And now, after making Aliyah, I’m living back here in this sacred space of Eretz Yisrael with my family, amidst her splendor.
I imagined the holy souls who were once there in Bet She’arim, and how it was a bastion of Torah study.
It’s the same Torah we still meticulously study today, finding—in each perfectly placed letter—the God-given secrets of living with purpose in this world.
It’s a guidebook lovingly passed from father to son, mother to daughter, teacher to student, for three millennia.
It’s what unites us in service of our Creator—during our short but monumentally important time here on this Earth.
There’s so much more to Bet She’arim and the rest of the land of Israel than I can currently fathom.
But I’m so grateful to have the chance to explore, to learn, and, G-d willing, to live out the rest of my days as a Jewish woman here in our Holy Land. 🇮🇱
